Preparing for Procedure

prepare for endoscopy

For upper endoscopy, please do not eat or drink after midnight the night before your procedure. A specific preparation is not necessary.

For colonoscopy, bowl preparation is mandatory. Our staff will give you a prescription and detailed information for the bowl preparation regimen. Please follow all instructions carefully as to allow your procedure to ensure the most effective cleansing. If you take any blood thinners, please inform us and bring current medication list. Please take your regular medications in the morning of the procedure as usual. Wear comfortable clothes, shoes with low heels. Leave valuables at home.

Although colonoscopy is a very safe and effective procedure, complications can occur. This includes bleeding after polypectomy or perforations, which require surgical repair.

Endoscopy involves sedation. After procedure, you will not be allowed to drive yourself home by car! Please use public transportation or taxi. Occasionally, minor complaints like bloating or gas might occur. This usually disappears within 24 hours.
